Yeah, I honestly don't think that would've helped anything or anyone.

Well, we'll see how it goes. I'm honestly not great at these sorts of things, so it might be a mess. Do step in if I hit a point where I'm only going to make things worse?

There's no expectation on you to do anything or to behave any way. He is no fool unaware of who he is meeting and what he has done. But he is no unruly beast who hungers only for blood.

He enjoys music and art and theatre. He will happily engage in clever or thoughtful conversation. I don't know your aim in this but if you come to the chat interested, there is a large chance he will reply in kind.

That said if you have any specific concerns, voice them that I may more easily spot the trouble early. If you care to, anyway.

I don't have any specific concerns. I tend to have a caustic personality when dealing with certain personality types- like Malcolm, but I perhaps hide it a little better. It comes out at inopportune times, but I'm at least aware of it. So, I can try to be careful. I suppose if I just start...sniping at him, let me know. But hopefully that won't be a problem.

I've had something of a crash course in classical music and art in the past few years, so maybe I'll try discussing that. My aim is mostly to learn about him and see him as a fully three-dimensional person, and to try my best to have him do the same with me. I do appreciate your advice.

I had not noticed him to be caustic, only a touch difficult. He reminded me of one of my fellows during my time under Dr. Carrel, in truth. I admit that it took some time for the two of us to find our balance in working together, but we did in time become of great use to one another.

[ A breath in and a quick nod. ]

That is my hope, if I am to be honest. Both for the safety of those around him and for his own sake... as well as everyone who might come to know the man he hides so expertly behind the guise of monstrousness.

I'm glad things have been relatively all right between you and Malcolm. Considering everything I keep hearing around the ship, you'd think he was the devil himself.

[ Slight sigh. It's harder to watch someone he cares about getting maligned at every corner than it is to be the one maligned. ]

Lestat's had a very, very long time to keep his monstrous disguise on. It has to practically be a security blanket by now. I don't envy you your job in prying that off of him.

--then again, I know for a fact that it's not impossible. So I'll wish you luck in that endeavor.

From that viewpoint, he seems kind-hearted if rather overfond of sharp wit at times. It is hardly a damning fault in my eyes, though I can see how it might be misunderstood or ill-received. I am sorry if the current difficulties have contributed to a difficult time he's been having.

[ A nod to what Will says, though. He's not at all wrong, though he feels it improper to say further, a betrayal of Lestat's trust. ]
