In case you become concerned that you can't find Lottie when you return, she's taken up in my coffin with me. I've propped the lid enough to give her space to leave but she seems unwilling to do so.

Imagine my surprise that the little one prefers to keep close to you. I've read they sleep on those they consider their own.

I think she simply cannot accept a part of this cabin she is not able to enter and leave as she pleases. Her incessant pawing would ruin the woodwork.

I may. When I gave my lectures, there were dinners and personal meetings and mingles and drinks and it was a whirlwind of light and faces and people and discussions and I remember when all of it was through, I would retire to my hotel room and sleep like the dead.

I suppose there’s nothing I can do to ease the weariness I’ve played a part in causing.

To know that you trust in my concern for you, as much for your happiness as for your safety, is all the ease I truly need. In some sense, I am paradoxically glad for this mess if only to convince you that I believe you to be worth this and far more.

I also think I may have gained a friend in your Mr. Caffrey. He was asking me about ways he might make blood more enjoyable for you, I believe?

Ah, yes, the blood. There is nothing about blood I find not enjoyable but I won't deny his flights of fancy. He made some curious little things. I saved some for you, should you ever return to myself and dear Lottie.

[ Perhaps less sharp ears might not hear, the soft sound of unnecessary exhale that speaks only of his relief and pleasure at hearing those words, how much they truly mean to him. ]

In truth, I intend to return home now. Mr. Bright is up and around and doing as he likes, my shift is over and I can perhaps arrange schedules properly to ensure all of us in one place once I have collapsed.

And perhaps tried your strange desserts. Perhaps I am young yet, but I do miss the culinary arts.

I cannot say anything I ate before becoming a vampire was particularly inspiring. At least there’s romance in the horror of blood drinking. You may be more inclined towards these treats than I.

To the best of my observation, it's a sort of coagulated blood thing.
