Then it was an even more useful request than I thought it might be. { It's far easier to fall back into the flirtatious teasing. Lestat doesn't really believe in kindness without motive, nor does he know how to respond to it when directed at him. People tend to do nice things for him for a variety of reasons, but doing it because they want to generally isn't one of them.

It's better to ignore the vague uneasiness by poking fun at Reid and his quickness to fluster. }

[ Reid's shared quarters before; it's not the sort of thing that bothers him. He's not a solitary creature even though his pursuits often make him feel as though he ought to be. ]

I'm afraid this is all moving quite fast. Perhaps the coffin can wait. I'm an old fashioned soul, after all, there's nothing wrong with taking time for a proper courtship.

{ He doesn't want to impose too much, either, which might seem contradictory to his nature but there's an art to it. With Louis, there had been no choice but to be together so much right away. Louis was newly turned with nowhere else in the city to find refuge and no one else to teach him the ways.

He doesn't need to force his presence on Reid all the time to be present in other ways. This room alone and his little sofa will be enough to at least put his name in Reid's thoughts once a day. He can simply just drop in now and then to enjoy some privacy in a much more spacious room. }

We would have to begin a courtship for that, which I believe is frowned upon in inmate and warden relationships... for obvious reason.

On the contrary, I'd say we're well into one. Simple conversations in sitting rooms, your obvious display of gentlemanly behaviour in your considerations towards me, rather large gestures of affection.

{ There's an amused gleam in his eyes before he shrugs a shoulder in indifference. }

I think you vastly overestimate the estimation the people here have of me. Why it was only the other week when I was being blackmailed as a potential threat to the barge, as you recall.

[ Wry, with no actual frustration but a tired sort of acceptance. ]

{ He adjusts himself on his chaise, sitting up a little more properly so he can better regard Reid. }

I mean to say that you're far too reasonable to fall for my charms and wiles. It's a compliment, I'm sure. Take it as such.
