[It is a perfectly normal hard candy sweet. But they're in Zero, which negates all powers and exotics to a human baseline. He isn't sure if vampiric appetites quite count for that - hence testing with something small first - but it works to eliminate whatever weird part of his alien physiology needs but can't stand human food, and that's not a useful power at all, so - he hopes.

Jedao suspects the most likely outcome is that Reid can eat and enjoy human food down here in Zero, but as soon as he leaves will derive no nutrition or sustenance from it, and still require blood. If he's right, Hakkai is waiting with a pot of boeuf bourguignon not one floor away. And if he's wrong, at least Jedao didn't get Reid's hopes up.
